i spent 12 hours and 44 minutes on my phone today, a full ten hours of which was using up free lives on drop the cat. i am so fed up of myself. i've added a timer to it now because that is CRAZY. i was going to do sewing whilst listening to my NEW audiobook (found on youtube) but just ended up looking at my phone and getting a screen headache that is not shifting. so that was fun.

i finally finished assassin's blade! i gave up on reading it on my kindle and switched to audiobook so i could listen to it whilst cooking etc, and if definitely helped me power through the last 20% of it. i... hated it. oops. it was just so bad. celaena is a brat, she is clueless and spoiled and i intensely dislike her. and i have like four or five books left in the series to read with book club.

to make up for that being truly awful i have now decided to read good books until the book club girls catch up. i've started remarkably bright creatures, and its incredible. to the point that i am aware i am going to go to bed, and then stay up for another three hours reading it.

we didn't go to puppy training again. chris is in full blown flu mode and has spent the day in bed so i didn't have a lfit. moose is still recovering from his trek yesterday.

i had a no spend day today (woo) but i will need to buy laura new school shoes when the child benefit lands in my account tomorrow.

i made fudge to read with, and had a sugar sandwich for dinner.... laura wanted supernoodles and a chicken breast for dinner - thursday is picky dinner night so she gets to pick from whatever is in the cupboards and freezer. weird mix but go off.

i put the bins out just now and took this photo on my phone for @fujiapplefox  - this is the night sky by me on a regular night. i just noticed how bright orion is. my favourite constellation.

anyway, i'm off to go and read more.

chris came down with fire in his belly to sort the house out. he really wants to get rid of the olive tree in the garden, i do not necessarily, but i can also see the bonus in doing so. the garden is about 120ft long, but only about 9ft wide, so the tree takes up a lot of space. the key thing is we really need to build a garage, mostly because on street parking sucks, we don't have much space for storage in the house, and the tiny shed we have is full of camping equipment, but because its so tiny, the camping equipment is also in the airing cupboard, under the stairs, under the attic eaves... you get the picture.

chris left to take the boys home, i did the dishes, folded some laundry and then took moose down the beach to try out the long lead. he is not sure at all about not being able to roam free! we walked up and down a bit while he went loopy, i had to tie the long line around my waist to counter balance his strength! our neighbour irish john came over with his tiny dog lola, and laura got to hold lola and john made a huge fuss of moose. it was very sweet.

came home after an hour and finished up the kitchen, then my tesco shop arrived. i have definitely been better about spending the grocery budget since doing the online shop with tesco, as much as i hate to admit it. my food bill has gone from about £120 a week to £80. we aren't really buying snacks and we aren't buying alcohol which is helping, but it's been a bit of a relief to see the spending slow down. unforunately laura forgot to tell me that she had food technology class tomorrow so we had to go to the corner shop to buy fruit for a fruit salad none of us will eat. how fun.

i decided to spend a couple of hours doing a new cross stitch pattern, here is how far i have got. that was two hours of stitching. its a shame because this is an older kit from the subscription box, and you can really feel that they have downgraded their supplier since then. the aida is much stiffer and the hoop is holding its shape with this kit, which was not the case with the last one i did. another reason to cancel it i suppose.

watched some youtube while i sewed. i don't seem to have the attention span for a series or a movie at the moment. i just want to dip in and out of things, or have something comforting on. i watched some morgan evelyn cook, a 90 day fiance roast video, and a caleb hammer episode. posted my reading wrap up on my book instagram, then went up to bed early to read, and as much as i hate to admit it, i think i am now invested in celaena sardothien's character arc...

finished reading empire of pain around 11pm. there was a statistic in there that i am going to paraphrase. it said that after they released the "tamper proof" pill, that out of everyone that died from heroin overdoses in the following years 4 out of 5 of them started their drug abuse and additction with prescription painkillers. wild. prescription drug abuse is such a weird thing that nobody really talks about. it must be fine because its come from a doctor! but its not, and it can and does ruin lives.

finished all my work training pretty quickly today so i caught up on some youtube. i really enjoy videos by morgan evelyn cook, diaries of tay and project no buy. i thought about doing a no buy, but a) i've already messed it up and b) i don't really buy much anyway. i should probably put a self imposed ban on shopping on vinted though. or maybe just allow myself one purchase a month. now i WFH most of my day to day outfits are going to be leggings and a warm hoody, rather than any of the cute dresses in my wardrobe.

i don't think chris slept very well last night due to me not being able to breathe so i hope he is asleep when i go upstairs. i called off going to dog training because i feel so rough and i have done no practice with moose all week. i had the bookswaps meeting at 6pm and i joined via phone rather than give people the lurgy. hannah being pregnant etc i can't think of anything worse than making her ill. i am pretty sure reading a mirror crack'd from side to side by agatha christie traumatised me and i know i haven't got german measles but i don't want to be the cause of anything going wrong!

one random person has joined our book club on fable - i hope they are prepared for the level of snarkiness that has been going on. so far i am not loving the series. but our next read is set up and it is assassins blade. i have never known novellas be over 450 pages.

i am now the proud owner of a split dyed fairy mullet. i think next time i go back i will ask her to cut the top shorter again. its such a relief to not feel it touching my face. annoyingly some of my hair is still pretty stained from when i dyed it pink a year ago, this means that my hair is like dark dark brown on one side, and platinum blonde reverse ombre into orange on the other. it looks a bit like a scruffy fox. i also don't understand how it looks more orange since adding extra bleach than it did this morning but there we go.

walked moose around the park this morning and it snowed. it snowed again whilst i was waiting for the train to town, but sadly nothing has settled. once i had my hair done there was time for a quick stop in m&s for period pants and more white coconut edp (my signature scent), and then i nipped to boots and grabbed some the ordinary granactive retionoid 2% something or other. i am so sick of having bumps along my jawline every 4 weeks - i thought the snail mucin might have done it but honestly i need a proper skincare regimen and also to remember to drink water.

came home and had to get straight into the shower to undo the blowdry from the hairdresser, then laura wanted to play switch so we played some overcooked together - what a frustrating game that is!! very fun but we were both shouting at each other the whole time. made paella for dinner, then parked up on sofa.

had a hoohah over whether one sip of peppermint and licorice herbal tea breaks a fast or not, determined after some cross words that it did not.
watched the traitors - i am voting amanda or fiona as secret traitor and hugo is an idiot who shot himself in the foot; i also really like harriet - ate some very good homemade fudge, and am now sat here debating if it's too early to go to bed and carry on reading. i'm 75% done with throne of glass and the two girls i am buddy reading with are on chapter 6...

i'm gutted i missed the full moon dip tonight. another couple of days and then i can get back in the water.

i took the loan. it came through this morning and i promptly paid off four credit cards, and the skip and transferred the rest to savings. feel very pleased about it as it will save me about £45 a month. i then went into overdrive mode on sorting out the finances for 2026, and treated myself to a new spreadsheet set up from etsy. it's got everything including a net worth tracker, investment calculator, automated emergency fund target, debt snowball calculator, monthly budgeting and transactions and two different annual overviews. it has made me very happy. i've decided to put £25 into investments each month from the £45 i was saving by not paying the credit cards. hopefully i've picked smart funds!

took moose for a walk to work on his training. he was less pully than usual and quicker to "leave" other dogs, but he wouldn't sit for anything. i think he doesn't want a cold bum because he hates sitting on the tiles in the house too and is more likely to respond to you if you ask him to sit when he is on the rug.

i cleared out the majority of the upstairs landing although i still need to finish vacuum packing things away and putting them in the top cupboard. it looks a lot bigger. the whole of the house looks bigger since taking down the christmas stuff. i'm going to need to start building a list of things that i want to do to make it snug again, starting with painting the wall my desk is against, and getting my gallery wall and skulls up. i don't think many people would say that skulls are snug, but i kind of like them interspersed with the cross stitch and silly quotes.

wanted to play switch with laura this afternoon but i can't find my switch dock anywhere, so that is something i will have to dig through the airing cupboard for tomorrow. we ended up propping my switch up on the table and connecting both sets of joycons to it and played lego harry potter for an hour. it was pretty good fun!  made dinner (haha, i didn't make anything at all, i just dug a bag of some chicken pasta concoction out of the freezer) and then decided to make fudge. very pleased to report it has set for once, although my arm is absolutely killing me from beating the daylights out of it for 14 minutes. ouch.

laura and i then watched the traitors, i read a thread about how george r r martin will never release winds of winter, and now i am sat here. chris has just come down for an electrolyte pill being two days into his seven day fast, and asked me what i am doing tonight. i told him i was going to be reading throne of glass, and he was pleased because it means he gets to carry on watching boardwalk empire. i would go up to bed to read, but i am in mortal danger of falling asleep and i want to eat fudge!

happy new year!

chris is fasting so he is not very happy. i am not fasting so i made pancakes for brunch for me and laura. i have discovered caramelised apple spread from bonne maman with cream on top is essentially the worlds most perfect pancake topping ever. however i have also put on 5lbs over christmas, so maybe i ought to cut back a little bit...

we took moose for a walk around the harbour and discussed what our dream camper van would look like - i am in favour of a fixed bed because i hate nothing more than being rushed to get up. came home and somehow i am STILL reading emily wilde. going to finish that tonight so i can start throne of glass tomorrow. tried to get dog treats from jollyes but they were closed - doh. ended up at co-op and got some beef treats that moose went absolutely wild for. he sat and did paw properly for them for the first time ever.

interestingly asda money have offered me a loan, which would clear my credit cards and pay for the skip, and i am rather tempted to say yes. i feel like it might improve my credit overall? started the 1p challenge again today, i had to pull it out last time around may. won't be doing that again.

leftover indian takeaway for dinner - laura had curry and rice and i had a peshwari naan which was about 95% naan and 5% filling - very disappointed. i hopped on the bandwagon, you know the one of the "in your 20s someone will ask you X question, it is very important that you say yes" but i did it about me and chris as a surprise for him and he got a bit emotional which was very sweet and made me very happy. he watched the first half of the liverpool game and then we took moose to good boy dog school for the first time!

he was very over excited as per usual, and the trainer took him up and down the hall and taught him "this way" which was incredible as he was walking without pulling. there was only one other person there, and they were learning the bed command, which moose is way off being able to do. however we did manage to do stay! and some scent work and the trainer said that moose was one of the easier english bull terriers to train as he actually wanted to engage (and was very handsome) it was really good fun and i am looking forward to going back again next week.

ended my day watching the new series of the traitors with laura - i am suspicious that amanda is the secret traitor! but i could be totally wrong.

spends today: £118.55

£60 good boy dog classes (7 sessions)
£39.99 finch premium for the year
£1.99 drop the cat extra money (stupid)

£7.40 dog treats and shampoo
